The most wonderful and also the busiest time of the year is upon us once more. Our weekends are spent not only to shop for gifts and foods for the celebration but also to enjoy various events such as reunions, baptisms and weddings. Yes, aside from the love month, December is also the most popular month to hold weddings for various reasons. Planning to have a wedding on December but can’t make up your mind yet? Here are some pros and cons to help you make a decision.

Pros

  • Everyone is on vacation. Many people who are away throughout the year are home during Christmas to be with their families. And since they are in town, it is highly possible that they can make it to your wedding especially if the wedding is scheduled a few days before or after Christmas and New Year’s day. Talk about hitting two birds with one stone. So your childhood friend you haven’t seen in five years, your aunt who has been working abroad or a former teacher who has been spending his retirement with his child in another part of the world will likely be there on your special day.
  • Mood is festive. Almost everyone is on festive mood during the advent season. So the less negative vibes on your wedding day, the happier the celebration will be.
  • Decors and lights everywhere. Churches are decorated and parks are lit up! In other words, more venues for your photo ops and can even help you save some amount on decorations and props since you no longer have to buy or pay for them. You just have to make use of what is available. Sure Christmas lights in the background can help create dreamy photos of you and your significant other in your wedding get up.

Cons

  • Church, hotel/reception venues and other suppliers are fully booked. Since Christmas is the busiest time of the year, many of these hotels and reception venues as well as photographers, videographers, caterers, etc. have their hands full. It is best to book months, even up to a year in advance so you can guarantee the availability of your preferred venue or supplier.
  • Many are busy with other Christmas-related events. Christmas parties, get-togethers and other events are everywhere! Some guests may not make it, or if they can make it, they are either late or need to leave early due to conflicting schedule. But then, those who matter and find you special will always stay no matter what.
  • Traffic. Weddings scheduled for the day are less likely to suffer from this but late afternoon to evening weddings will not be spared especially if your venue is in a busy metropolitan. Iloilo’s traffic can be annoying during peak hours on a regular day and it will definitely worsen during holidays when everyone is out and about. However, how can you come up with dreamy photos with sparkling lights as the background on broad daylight?
Deciding whether or not to go for a December wedding, is entirely up to you and your partner. If some of the cons create doubts in holding your wedding during the holidays, think about what matters the most. A little inconvenience caused by traffic or fully booked hotel for overnight-staying guests may not matter anymore when you know everyone is having a blast.
